360 Video

360 Video

We have all heard of 360 Video, perhaps you have seen it on Facebook recently or on Youtube! Well, 360 Video is here to stay and accessible to everyone. One phrase says it all – Capture Everything!

Think of traditional video, you are seeing one small frame a scene, we have become accustomed to this and really do not miss the other pieces. This is because since most of us can remember we have only had that little square or now it is a rectangle to view films or video.

Of course, TV shows and Movies will continue to use this method into the future as far as i can see because it is a way of really dialing into the story and content. We now have another option, 360-degree video.

We used to hear about our first steps second hand before the camera. Once the Camera became common place we may have seen pictures of our first steps, then 35 mm film and later Handy Cam’s would show us those first steps.

Now you have the opportunity to not only capture those first steps on film, but the whole environment you were taking those first steps in – with 360-degree views! This is powerful, simply you are now able to Capture Everything!

This 360-degree video technology has become more affordable in the last 12 months, you can now pick up a 4K 360 Degree Camera for under $200.

This is a game changer, you will be able to whack your Google Cardboard or Virtual Reality Headset on and watch as if you were there. Or share on Facebook and allow your friends to scroll around or use your smartphones gyro sensor to look around the video.

Youtube has a large collection of 360-degree video, check them out

Vimeo, the other large player in online video has recently allowed 360-degree video content to be uploaded to their site as well.

So you can see that these giants of online video are taking 360 seriously, it will not be long until everyone is using 360 degree Camera’s here in Australia.

On a recent trip to China I discovered that 360 degree video is firmly entrenched and popular amongst the Chinese. They have really adopted this format and cannot get enough of it to record their memories. This trend has caught on in the United States but not to the extent it has in China yet.

Of course, Australia can have a slight lag when it comes to jumping onto technology but we have seen a definite uptake on the need of 360 degree video here.

So, if you are thinking of jumping into 360 videos, this is a perfect time. Have a look at some of our  360 Camera’s here and remember, Capture Everything!

Google VR Teams up with HTC Vive

Google VR

Google VR and HTC Vive

A lot has been announced by google at it’s annual Google I/O conference and it was all good for Google VR. At the time of writing this, we are only halfway through Day 2!

Let us start with the news that HTC and Google are both partnering up to create a new standalone VR Headset that will be powered by Daydream. Lenovo is also working with Google to create its own standalone VR Headset as well.

We are all hoping that this brings a full and complete Virtual Reality Experience without being tethered to a high powered graphics card in a computer like the amazing HTC Vive or Oculus Rift Headsets. As you can see by the video below it looks very sleek so it will be awesome to get our hands on these headsets when they do come out and see what they can do.

Now, will we get 6 Degrees of Freedom? (6DoF) Google announced that these new systems will be using a positional tracking system called WorldSense which improve tracking by a fair way over previous Daydream devices.

Worldsense is built with an inside-out tracking technology that means that external sensors are not used. This will improve immersion into the VR world you are experiencing over the phone based experience many are used too.

Will it be Vive like? The jury is out, I am sure that there will be more information filtering out on the interwebs as the release date comes closer. Take a look at what Google show us in the promo below, it shows that we can dodge and move our heads. I am sure accesories for hands and hopefully feet will be released to allow more movement.

But there is more, WorldSense also maps the world around you. Check out this animation that was released day 1 of Google I/O. This is very cool and opens up a lot of possibilities for these new headsets and technology.

The price of these new devices will be similar to what the HTC Vive is now. The great thing is that you do not need to buy a PC and install a high powered Graphics Card into it. Also, there will be no installation factors such as laying cables etc when preparing your VR area. In fact your VR Area can be anywhere you please.
